The big chill - July 8th

What is it about cold days that make you go for a tinkle? A restless sleep by all as the night passed by at an excruciatingly slow pace while we wished for dawn to break. Getting out of bed early in the morning, i could see that the perspiration from our bodies and breath has condensed on the inside of the tent and frozen, leaving the canvas of the tent with the texture of cardboard.

Opening the tent, the frost was deep and the landscape white as far as the eye could see. And yes, it was bloody freezing!

Very cold!

The family, now in open rebellion, had to be placated and coaxed... "We're heading north - it can only get warmer".  Unofficial temperatures for the night were -4oC to -7oC.

After the tent thawed out enough we packed up and headed through Tenterfield - famous for Peter Allen's Tenterfield Saddler song. Hot chips and an appeased  family, we hit the township of Jennings and the QLD boarder.

We camped in the small town of Nobby, wary of another cold night. The site was flat and grassy with power for a small price. It was a balmy 2oC - a warm night, a great feed, a local pub and an untroubled sleep.
