Cooktown - July 16-17

In the morning we had a couple of tourist stops on the Atherton Tablelands to buy fresh fruit, peanuts and a drop of Melon wine! Only in Queensland...

We sampled the 360 degree panoramic views from Grassy Hill, where Captain Cook first surveyed the surrounds while his ship was repaired.  Great views, though Cooktown with a population of 2000 was smaller than I expected. However, I can state that they make great chips at the wharf. The Historic Society had an informative display on the history and characters that shaped the gold-mining town of Cooktown and the tough times it went through.

After a couple of easy days it was time to fasten the pace and start the next leg of our adventure. We only had a couple of chores in the morning including the park passes... That shouldn't take too long....right?
